Earlier tonight, while attempting to fill in lost time and summarize 2009 in my personal written journal, I realized that this is a year that, for the most part, I don't really want to relive for the hour it takes to fully detail what happened. I can list a very small handful of really awesome life-changing things from 2009 (adopting Gus, turning 21, reconnecting with a close friend from the past) but the list of not-so-awesome life-changing and also not-so-life-changing things that happened is significantly longer and not worth recounting.
I know it's been a nice, long time since I said anything here, let alone anything of any true worth, but I'll leave this entry short with the following:
Love is important. Love hard, love like you'll never have a chance to love again. But even love isn't enough if they don't have your best interests in mind. The only relationship that matters the most is the relationship you have with yourself.

From my loud neighbors next door:
EVEN IF YOU PULL OUT, YOU CAN STILL GET HER PREGNANT!

"WHY DIDN'T YOU WEAR A CONDOM!?!?"

It's true, guys. Even if you pull out, you can still get her pregnant. There is sperm in pre-ejaculate. Cover your stump before you hump.

I am a retard. I reset my alarm when it first went off for 8:10 and wound up letting it fall under a pillow and didn't hear it going off until 8:45. This is also combined with the fact that both cats made a really solid effort to wake me up and Courtney texted me 7 minutes before my class started (except my texting/calls were on silent). Gus knows the sound of my alarm and torpedoes in to get love as soon as he knows I'm supposed to be awake but even Lucy stood on top of me and cried this morning and I opened my eyes, said hi to her, and passed back out.
Anyway, by the time I got to campus it was so far into class that I would've been seriously disruptive walking in. So I emailed my professor all of the stuff I would've had to turn in and explained that I am a retard. And am now in the library because I knew I'd be more likely to find an open working computer here at 9:15 on a Friday morning than pretty much any other time.

On the bright side, I have my chem lecture at 10:10 and then when that's over at 11:05, I'm free to go throw my shit and Gus in the car and start the epic 5-hour journey back home. I'm interested to see how Gus does in the car but, at the same time, totally not looking forward to the idea that he may be horrendously misbehaved. And I wouldn't really blame him. But I'm going home to comfort food, some time to just fuck around, and a Samsung BlackJack that I got off of eBay for $23.50 and the battery, charger, and case I got on a really cheap distributor for $19.49, finally replacing my absolute piece of shit $20 Nokia Go Phone. I'm psyched to get email directly to my phone again (I can turn off the forwarding to text because it eats up my inbox and doesn't display the whole message) and now I'll finally have a real-life QWERTY keyboard with no predictive text what so ever! HOORAH!

If you happen to be in the 610 between tonight around 5pm and the 15th around 3pm, please call me!

I'm updating from my BlackBerry, as I chose not to pack my laptop despite wifi access, so please excuse my typos. I'll make sure to fix the ones I don't catch in the posting process when I'm back home and on a more normal keyboard.

Right now, I'm in Key Largo, FL. I've been here since Christmas. Pretty sweet, right? The weather is all-around incredible, staying around 80 degrees and sunny. We've been involved in interesting activities like snorkeling (this morning, which wound up being a resounding failure), swimming with dolphins (yesterday, which was one of the better experiences of my life to date), and eating way too much protein because these people generally don't understand the concept of pasta. It's all fish, burgers, and steak. Sometimes chicken. Anyway, the other major bummer is that there aren't really beaches in the Keys. Man-made canals of ocean water go in between every street off of Rt.1 and the ocean, bay, or Gulph of Mexico reach right to the rocky coral remains at the end of the foliage on either side of the islands, never tapering off to a soft spot to spread a towel. On the other hand, it's really cool how basically every house or building not on the main highway has its own dock.

Of course, Florida hasn't been my only adventure since my last update, which is part of why this is a public post for a change.

I totaled my car.

Ugh, I hate the way that sounds/feels/looks.

Ok, so I wasn't really the one who had anything to do with the damage that makes it more or less totaled (keep in mind that I'm saying this without hearing from my claim agent about the verdict yet... But I should know for sure by the end of the week). The first portion of the damage on my car was due in part to the ice coating the roads at 4am on December 24th and the fact that my neighbor at the bottom of the hill from me/the rest of town feels the need to keep a Private Drive street marker sign at the bottom of his driveway. Thanks, buddy. It's cool though because when I missed a tree and the decent embankment to a creek in my swerving, I also completely took out his mailbox.
That was only some of the damage. 2 hours after I left my car stranded on this guy's lawn, another neighbor 360ed down the same hill on his way to work and totally took out the back end of my car, pushing it another 10-15 feet into this guy's yard and completely on top of a small tree that, I hope, recovers from several hours bent 90 degrees almost at the roots under my car before it was towed.

The interesting twist to the story is that, if Josh weren't with me, I would probably be dead from airbag impact from hitting the tree we barely missed. Not only did he direct me to downshift into first gear instead of braking, like my instinct told me to when my speedometer started creeping up inching down the hill, but he was the third steady hand on the wheel turning at the last second and only completely fucking up the rear oassenger side wheel, tire, and axle. So, um, thanks Josh for saving my life and shit.
The adventure actually got more harrowing because it took us a half hour trying to cross icy yards and driveways up the other end of the hill to get back to my house (he crashed on the couch due to driving conditions). I still have a bruise on my right knee from one of my several hard tarmac spills. Note to self: when the roads are an ice rink, don't wear flats to look cute. Go with the more basic instinct to wear Uggs so when you give up and try to crawl across a driveway with barehands and your knees get soaked, at least part of you is still warm.

To add insult to injury, my loving and wonderful father gave me another New York winter survival kit (windshield de-icer, windshield washer fluid that won't freeze, lock de-icer...) that I opened not 24 hours after my awesome adventure. Oops.

So I hope that clears up some questions as far as my facebook status regarding poor Lesbo. I'll add more details probably in another friends-only post about the Florida trip when I'm home since tomorrow we're going to Key West! WILD KITTIES WITH 6 TOES!

Black Friday:
Spent $172.88
Saved $138.72
made purchases at Banana Republic Factory Outlet, Rue 21 in the Philadelphia Premium Outlets, J.Crew Factory Outlet, Forever 21, and Guven's (a small middle eastern-themed store that sells hookah tobacco, which is what I bought in bulk)
Summary: SUCCESS

Quick bullets about break:
Tuesday night- Minella's with Sean and Jen after homemade dinner and homemade carrot cake and homemade cream cheese frosting by the spoonful.
Wednesday- NYC with Mommy. 9am Amtrak in, Lollipop building in Columbus Circle, lunch at Landmarc in the Time Warner building, Equus at the Majestic, watching skaters at Bryant Park, dinner at a small Irish pub across the street from Penn Station, 8pm Amtrak home. Minella's and Wawa with Rob.
Thursday- Thanksgiving feastivities with some of the slightly saner members of the family. Quiet. Watched Iron Man.
Friday- Black Friday with Phyll, Kait, and Tina. Dinner with Dad. 20/20 with Mom.
Saturday- Mac and Cheese party with Sean. Watch Get Smart at Jon's with Geri and Sammy the obese cocker spaniel.
Sunday- Drive 2 hours. Spend 2 hours with 10 one-day-old poodle puppies and my Gran and oldest cousin. Drive 6 more hours. Spend 4 hours putting away clean clothes, showering, and hacking off 4 inches of my hair.

I came back to school and found that Lucy got fatter and learned how to meow like a real cat, not a squeak toy. I went back to classes to find that I have a majority of my end of semester cram writing to do before classes end, which is not in the norm.

December? Seriously? My brother will be 11 in a month and a half. He uses deodorant, is almost as tall as me, and has a froggy deeper voice than the one I still mimic when I play his part in reenacting conversation. Lucy will be 6 months old in a week.

And as for me, what the hell has really changed? Will I ever grow a set and do what I've been saying I'll do for the last 7 months now? Will I ever grow a real work ethic and stick with doing the non-required work for all of my classes like I always say I will?
Will I go to Europe this summer like I say I will? Will I take Physics and Biology this summer so I can complete all of my pre-med requirements in college and not want to commit suicide? Will I volunteer at Paoli Hospital over winter break? Will I intern at Four Winds in May and June? Will I take a year off living at home?

Will I stay quit from smoking, like I have for the last two weeks?

At 11pm, we were watching MSNBC's coverage of the election. We heard a loud roar from next door and immediately switched to CNN, which had previously been a little bit more conservative in reporting projections, and saw the headline, "BARAK OBAMA WINS PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION [CNN Projection]" and screamed. My mom called to congratulate me on voting for a winning candidate my first time participating in the polls, we cracked open a bottle of wine, and ran outside to celebrate with the rest of Northwoods.

McCain's conciliatory speech was classy. Obama's acceptance speech was earth-shattering. Courtney cried and I, admittedly, was tearing up.

This is revolutionary on a bunch of levels. It's a 180 from the current regime, it's the largest voter turn-out in history, it's the largest youth vote in history, and it's our first [half-]black president.

And dear god, I could not be more thrilled.
